‘Two Tribes’ play by Simon Castle

We are very proud to have played apart in supporting the development of a new play ‘Two Tribes’, which is set in Leeds and tells the story of two street-fighting lads who fall in secret love, and is best described as ‘when Heartstopper meets This is England’.

The work was written by our member Simon Castle, and secured funding from Arts Council England. Simon told us “Your help, love & motivation helped get this bid over the line and I'm so grateful to all of you at MOT. I’m beyond chuffed to bring this up to Leeds.”

Alongside Theatre Royal Stratford East the play completed its development at Leeds Playhouse where a performance on 22 November was quickly sold out. The play has Leeds Utd running through its core, and is true-to-life, disturbing and funny in equal measure. And beyond the football setting it carries a powerful and still topical message for everyone about the delicate and often painful decisions faced by the LGBTQ+ community in living as their true selves with family and friends, and in all aspects of their lives.

We look forward to ‘Two Tribes’ marching out to be performed to much wider audiences, and send our congratulations to Simon Castle, Director Rikki Beadle-Blair, and all the cast and crew involved.
