National Diversity Awards

We are proud to have been nominated in the Category of Community Organisation Award for LGBT at the National Diversity Awards 2025.
Voting is open now and runs until the end of May; in June the judges announce the shortlist and the awards are given at a showcase event in Liverpool in September.

New YEP coverage
Following Leeds Utd’s success in lifting the award for the Professional Game category at the Football v Homophobia annual awards, the Yorkshire Evening Post spoke to our co-founder Andrew Tilley for an in-depth article about the work going on at all levels of the club and the impact of Angus Kinnear, the experience of being an LGBTQ+ fan, and signs of real change in the game… and also a reality-check on what still needs to be done.

LUFC Winners at FvH
At the prestigious Football vs Homophobia annual awards held in Glasgow on 7th March, we were thrilled and proud to see Leeds Utd announced as winners in the Professional Game category. This is well-deserved recognition for all the positive work by the club, and we were proud to be there in support and celebrate with the EDI team.

Own a page of LUFC history!
Our member Lionel Jones has made an amazing gesture to support fundraising for our working costs, by donating a pair of fabulous 1970’s yearbooks. They contain articles by the iconic Revie squad, and Vol 1 is personally signed by the team, including Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter and others. Vol 2 has reprints but Vol 1 (pictured) has actual signatures by their own hands!
Lionel has told the story about how as a 12-year-old Leeds fan he came to have them in ”a box of old tatty books”.

With Lionel’s agreement, we have spoken to the Leeds Fans Foodbank who are supported by LUST, and arranged to split the proceeds 50:50 with them. We are incredibly grateful to Lionel for his fantastic generosity and support.

LUFC action on chanting
Marching Out Together welcomes Leeds United’s statement today and fully supports the club and their position on this chant and all forms of discrimination. This includes homophobia, racism, misogyny and all forms of ‘tragedy’ chanting.
We are encouraged that the club is moving from well-intentioned words to action, and hope that this will help accelerate the change towards making football and Elland Road safer and more welcoming for all fans.

Discriminatory Chanting
We were disappointed to see the reports of discriminatory chanting by some Leeds fans at the Stoke City game. We are saddened that some of our fellow fans fail to understand how hurtful chants about tragic events can be to people around them. It’s not banter, it’s unacceptable.
We are in contact with the club at the highest level to reinforce the existing policies, which include sanctions up to and including bans. We are also talking to other supporters’ groups to seek support and help us educate fellow fans.

AGM & 2024 Report
Ahead of the last home game v Oxford (a thumping 4-0 win which sent everyone home happy for the hols) we held our members’ group AGM – once again kindly hosted by LUFC in the Elland Road Boardroom – and we talked through the annual report.
It’s been another great year for us, and we look forward to marching on and out in 2025. Thankyou to all of you have supported us, and we wish you a safe, healthy and happy Christmas.

Rainbow Laces 2024
Leeds Utd have dedicated our home fixture v Luton as the Rainbow Laces match this year. And we are proud to be special guests of the club with members pitchside to cheer the players out, notices in the programme and electronic scoreboard, and match tickets provided for a group of our members by the club and Leeds Utd Foundation.
And we are proud of the work we do jointly with the club year-round to make football and Elland Road a better place for *everyone*.
